What to do in Dubai

Situated on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf, Dubai is the true gem of the Emirates.

Falling somewhere gracefully in between a modern city and a scenic vista, Dubai’s tale is that of a city of two halves. Home to some of the most iconic structures ever created, its expansive skyline is one that’s rarely beaten, and one that’s constantly evolving. The remarkable Burj Khalifa, also known as the world’s tallest tower, and man-made Palm Jumeirah island are just a drop in the ocean of the sights to be seen.

Located within the Arabian desert, Dubai’s distinctive metropolitan atmosphere is accompanied by an infinite, sandy landscape that’s yours to be explored at the drop of a hat. Giving way to the striking Western Hajar Mountains, the city’s unique setting means that the tranquillity of the desert, and a picturesque panorama, are never far away.

Experience extravagance and culture at every turn in a city where its unmistakeable vibrancy and individuality is palpable, and who’s reputation is truly befitting of what it has to offer.

What to do in Dubai

With a whole host of extraordinary Dubai excursions on offer, submerging yourself in the Emirati culture has never been easier. From taking a scenic balloon flight over the vast sand dunes, to exploring the reefs of the Dubaian shoreline, we’ve hand-picked the top five things to do whilst on your visit to the City of Gold.

Take flight

Soar over the vast sand dunes of the UAE, whilst taking in the contrast of a city of two halves with a desert balloon flight.

On one side, find a horizon filled with an unparalleled feat of engineering and design, whilst on the other, an infinite dusky desert landscape.

Coastline dives

Take in the coastline from an angle that goes unseen to most: underwater. Home to some of the world’s most exotic marine life and rare, untouched reefs, explore the hidden depths of Dubai’s shoreline and see its flawless beauty for yourself.

Morning safari

Exchange the bustle of the city for an exhilarating Dubai Desert safari. Drive over the dunes towards the depths of the desert where a morning of traditional camel rides and sand-boarding awaits your arrival.

Dhow dinner cruise

Soak up the sites of the moonlit skyline whilst drifting down the Dubai Creek. Enjoy a dining experience like no other as you see the city’s architectural beauty enriched by a different light - all in the tranquil setting of a traditional wooden dhow.

High tea at Burj Al Arab

See Dubai’s most sought after sights, followed by an elegant high tea at the world famous Burj Al Arab.

The spectacular Burj Kahlifa, extravagant Dubai Mall fish tank and extraordinary Palm Jumeirah are just some of the sites on offer, with high tea taking place inside one of the city’s own coastal gems.

Souk it up

Dubai is home to some of the most superb shopping experiences in the world.

Although famed for its extravagant, modern malls and exceptional array of designer goods, a more traditional and authentically Dubain shopping experience lies in the city’s nearby souks.

Offering everything from spices and food to jewels and gold, traditional Souks line the narrow streets of Dubai, often hidden within beautiful market places complete with endless rows of eclectic stalls.

To find a true gem, make sure to head to the much-loved Gold Souk – Dubai’s most famous market of all - filled with copious amounts of elegant jewellery, gold bars and bullion coins ready to be bought and bartered for in true Arabian style.

Burj by night

Although renowned as one of the world’s most spectacular sights, due to its magnificent height and superior stature, visiting the Burj Khalifa during the daylight hours can often prove an overwhelming experience for those who like to avoid the crowds. A night time visit offers a cooler, quieter alternative – an unforgettable experience accompanied by the twinkling lights of an iconic cityscape turned on its head.

Foodie Fridays

For Dubaians, Friday marks the start of the weekend – meaning that Friday brunches are a much-loved affair in the city. From eat-your-heart-out bottomless brunches, to opulent eateries, there’s more than enough choice to satisfy your cravings, whatever they may be. For something different, why not head over to Atlantis, The Palm’s Saffron restaurant for an extravagant party atmosphere complete with over 220 spectacular dishes and a resident DJ.

A splash of colour

Created to support and nurture the flourishing art scene that goes unseen to most in Dubai, Alserkal Avenue is a creative hub for contemporary art and design.  Initially launched in 2007, the cluster of architecturally-designed warehouses is home to an array of galleries, creative spaces and businesses – from the home-grown to the internationally renowned. Located in the city’s industrial quarter, the Avenue is a must-visit for budding artists and aficionados alike.
