Venture across Knife Edge Bridge to gaze on the breathtaking panorama, or view the spectacle from the skies on an exhilarating helicopter ride, the sunlight creating colourful rainbows as it catches the misty spray, a photographer’s dream.
A walking safari in the South Luangwa will stir the soul. Wake early to zip open the tent and breathe in the scent of wild sage, stepping out in the wilderness where hippos, elephants and crocodiles congregate in the river’s oxbow lagoons and open sandbanks. It is a thrill to spot the first lion out on the Busanga Plains, which stretch as far as the eye can see. Here, on this vast expanse of grasslands and giant fig trees, are herds of tsessebe, hartebeest, zebra and buffalo. Golden brown lechwe sprint across marshes; thousands of sandy puku antelope fill the horizon.
After the game drive, head back to camp and star gaze on beanbags sipping Amarula, lost for words as you gaze at the incredible African sky. This is a land, too, of colourful traditional ceremonies signifying ancient times …the vivid displays of dancing and drumming lingering in the memory.
Introducing some of the best 5 star resorts in Zambia.

The best time to visit Victoria Falls is between April and October with warm days and cool nights – the falls are at their most dramatic from March to May, though the sheer volume of water can create so much mist that the views can be obscured and Livingstone Island may be closed. Water levels are lower from August to January. Visit Zambia’s game reserves in the dry winter months between May and October when the days are clear and warm – October can be very hot. Some camps close during the wetter summer months of December to March.
Whether approached from the Zimbabwe side or the Zambia side, little can prepare you for the sight and sound of Victoria Falls: the deafening roar, the thundering mass of water, the rainbows that appear in the clouds of mist. View the spectacle from the air during an exhilarating helicopter ride or microlight flight, or walk parallel to the Falls and be prepared to get a little wet, especially when the Zambezi is in full flood in May and June. Catch the boat over to Livingstone Island on the very lip of the Falls – a great vantage point to experience the sheer depth of the Falls (note that these trips are seasonal and dependent on the water level).
There are plenty of opportunities to go white water rafting along the Zambezi, but if you’d prefer a higher viewpoint, try zip wiring across a gorge or take a canopy tour through the riverine forest at Victoria Falls. On the Busanga Plains of Zambia’s Kafue National Park, hot air ballooners can enjoy a bird’s eye view of sweeping grassland terrain that’s home to large concentrations of wildlife – please call our specialists to discuss your tailor-made itinerary.
