Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park / SkySafari

Home to the world’s largest intact caldera, the continent’s highest mountain and wildlife numbers surpassing four million, Tanzania seems to work off the basis that more is more. There’s so much to see and do here, there’s no denying that getting to experience it all is no mean feat. But with some of the region’s most luxurious camps and lodges, and a private jet to boot, suddenly it seems unquestionably doable.

SkySafari’s sole purpose is to elevate the humble safari beyond brilliant and into the realms of magical and downright unforgettable. Combining some of Tanzania’s most luxurious camps, lodges and hotels with flying between each location in absolute comfort and style aboard their intimate, executive jet. This nine day journey sweeps through the elephant-rich landscape of Tarangire where the treetops are called home for two nights; followed by an interval at Ngorongoro Crater before taking front-row seats to view the Serengeti’s flora and fauna. Oh, and the real biggie is that the whole time the planetary impact is minimal, with SkySafari operating on a carbon negative basis and each trip contributing to the Land & Life foundation.

Itinerary highlights:

  • One-on-one bush walks with a Masai guide in Tarangire National Park
  • Head out on night safaris to see the animals in a different light
  • Explore the coffee plantations around Ngorongoro Crater’s edge
  • If timed right, the great migration can be seen from your doorstep in the Serengeti

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park

When the transfer from the airstrip turns into a game drive, you know Tarangire National Park will deliver the goods. Home to one of the largest populations of elephants in East Africa (a modest 3,000), it’s also where Elewana Treetops resides. Days here are taken up with intimate bush walks with the local Masai and enjoying a tipple in the lounge bar while the animals do the same in the watering hole below. And come sunset, nocturnal night drives reveal the action after dark before settling down to sleep among the baobab canopy. (AI)

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater

A hop, skip and a private jet flight away and a natural volcanic amphitheatre comes into view. The bottom of Ngorongoro Crater is teeming with wildlife amongst its grasslands and lakes. It’s not just the dry-land-dwelling lions, zebra and black rhino on the agenda, but the hippos and flamingos of Lake Manyara as well. Be sure to take a short break from the wildlife to explore the coffee plantations on the crater’s edge that surround Elewana The Manor. (AI)

Day /7-8

Serengeti Safari

Serengeti Safari

The Serengeti needs no introduction, its never-ending horizon is probably what most people think of when they picture the continent as a whole. Time it right, and the Great Migration is on the doorstep, but even if it’s been and gone the animals are always on the move, so ticking off the Big Five happens in no time. The time of year also affects the location of basecamp. But whether it be the luxurious tents of Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp or the stilted Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp, sumptuous safari living is always a given. (AI)

Day /9

Return to Kilimanjaro before return flight home

A game drive to the airstrip bids farewell to the bush before touching down in Kilimanjaro airport. The choice here is yours; spend a peaceful night back in Arusha Coffee Lodge, zip off to Zanzibar’s sands, or fly home with the memories still fresh in the mind. (AI)
