The clear Bahamian waters are famed for their diving, snorkelling and windsurfing – luxury yachts may be chartered for day sails to private outer islands, or hire a seaplane for an airborne safari. Two swimming pools, fitness and tennis facilities, 18-hole Tom Weiskopf championship golf course and a complimentary Kids Club are also available.

Upping the ante in the style stakes further, the original Hartford Wing has had a top-to-toe re-design; the rooms and suites have all been expanded and decked out in natural wood, cool marble and splashes of varying shades of blues. The new bathrooms are incredibly sumptuous and roomy terraces and balconies have been added to make the most of the ocean views. There's also a brand new infinity-edged beachfront pool, flanked by an excellent bar and grill. The Ocean Pool Grill, helmed by Executive Chef Gal Kozer, dishes up family-style sharing platters of delicious seafood and local specialities such as spiny lobster. The beachside barman can knock you up a mean cocktail, meaning all you need to do is fly, flop and feast.
Walk in the footsteps of James Bond at this celebrated, Versailles-inspired hotel languishing in the tropical splendour of Paradise Island. Several scenes in Casino Royale, starring Daniel Craig, were filmed in the hotel's lush interiors and amongst the elegant grounds. The Bahamas enjoy a warm, subtropical climate that varies little year round – the most refreshing time to visit is from November to May, with average temperatures of 26°C, though evenings may feel fresher due to the cooling trade winds. The summer months are hotter and humid, with the possibility of tropical showers.
