It is the perfect base from which to discover the riches of the Virunga volcanic area with its misty mountain vistas and famed groups of habituated gorillas. Beyond the incredible thrill of meeting gorillas, other attractions include cultural visits to local villages, the lava tunnels of the Musanze Caves, Dian Fossey’s grave and the twin lakes of Buhondo and Burera. Birding is a highlight, and guests are also be offered the opportunity to participate in a visionary reforestation programme.

Gorilla tracking takes place year round – early booking is essential as permits are strictly limited. The climate is pleasantly tropical due to the high altitude and the temperature varies little year round. The rainier months are generally between March to May and mid September to November.
