Negombo
Transfer to The Wallawwa for an overnight stay. Just a short drive from the airport, it provides boutique style sanctuary within a lovingly coverted manor house and is perfect for weary travellers. Sigiriya
Travel towards the cultural triangle passing through rural fishing villages and vast coconut estates for a two night stay at Ulagalla by Uga Escapes. From here, climb the near-vertical walls on a guided trip to Sigiriya rock fortress, passing remarkable frescoes and carvings, to discover the ruins of an ancient civilisation. Best viewed in the early morning when the forests, water gardens and shrines are shrouded in mist. Follow this with a trip to Minneriya National Park for the chance to spot deer, crocodiles and wild elephants. (BB)

Passikudah
Next stop is a beach break on the north eastern coast at Uga Bay by Uga Escapes, your base for the next three nights. The curving bay boasts calm, shallow waters, safe for little ones and pristine conditions mean its a great snorkelling spot. Should you be able to drag yourself away, we can arrange a tour to Batticaloa, an authentic Sri lankan cooking class or a nature cycle trail. (BB)

Transfer to the airport for a flight to Colombo and an overnight stay at The Wallawwa. End your trip back at the wonderfully relaxed retreat, where wholesome distractions for the kids include fruit, herb and vegetable gardens, outdoor sports, a library and board games. (BB)
