Bermuda / The St. Regis Bermuda Resort

With every detail carefully considered and no expense spared, it’s not simply one or two things that make St. Regis’ Bermudan outpost shine, it’s the experience as a whole.

Part of an elite crowd being one of the few luxury options on Bermuda, an unassuming air parades around this swanky resort occupying a prime spot on the northern tip. With a welcome wagon of a signature scent that encapsulates the island, ocean views through floor-to-ceiling windows (be sure to take a glance upwards in the lobby to the sea glass chandelier overhead – you’ll thank us later), and – of course – the signature Butlers, there’s no doubting that you’re exactly where you deserve to be.

Travel notes:

  • 120 rooms and suites; with 2 – 3 bedroom residences opening later in 2021
  • Just steps away, the resort sits on the relatively secluded St. Catherine’s beach
  • History buffs are in their element here with the many forts, from Fort Hamilton built in the 1870s to Fort St, Catherine next door which now houses a museum dedicated to Bermudan history
  • Slated to open in late 2021, The St. Regis Bermuda will host the brand’s first casino with additional salon privé with two private tables
  • The dining options are modest but impressive, including the reputable BLT Steak NY, all-day dining at timeless Lina and Afternoon Tea in The Drawing Room
  • Small yet mighty, the spa on the ground floor uses precious, natural ingredients in their treatments

A sense of place

The fact that it’s on a former UNESCO plot speaks volumes for the location. One of the few Bermudan hotels where guests are able to walk out into the surrounding area, it puts the 17th century Fort St. Catherine and the cobbled streets of picturesque St. George’s – which looks like the set of Mamma Mia gone to the tropics – a hop, skip and a jump away.

In pursuit of...

... unapologetic lollygagging. The only swift part of a trip here is the airport transfer, a mere 15 minutes. From there, it’s as slow as you like. From languidly drifting in Tobacco Bay on a snorkelling foray to sipping on the special Gates Bay Bloody Mary poolside (they use Bermudan rum instead of traditional vodka). Top tip: pool worshipers have it best in the ground floor rooms that open up directly onto the pool area.

"The only swift part of a trip here is the airport transfer, from there, it’s as slow as you like."

Beyond family-friendly

Books have long been an important part of the St. Regis brand. So, after the butler has finished unpacking the interconnecting rooms, they will appear at the door with a tailored selection of books for budding bibliophiles to get stuck into on a break from the kids’ pool. For more adventurous clans, however, there’s the Family Traditions programme; with bonding experiences like diving one of the 400 plus shipwrecks around the coastline and a tour of the capital – Hamilton.

Wake up here

Design wise, inspiration is drawn from the local geography and culture, and while the suites all have something to shout about (every bed has a view), the St Catherine’s Suite is really special. One of the largest, it’s complete with wraparound balcony and pantry for the butlers – so private you wouldn’t even know they were there.

On location

For golfing fanatics, you can’t get much closer to a course than here – it’s right on the doorstep. And considering The St. Regis is more intimate than the sprawling-village-esque resorts you’d usually associate with golf, that’s pretty special. The Five Forts Golf Course – named after (you guessed it) the surrounding forts, was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr, and is one of the best way to take in those views and a bit of history on the way to the 18th hole.

A Carrier curation

While St. Regis have their always-a-delight champagne sabrage and Bermuda’s beaches are well coveted, we think a venture off the beaten track is the best way to visit. There’s a lot of history here, from the unfinished church and old naval forts to the abandoned NASA station; and the island perfumery, Lili Bermuda, is located in neighbouring St George’s. So for some ideas, all you need do is ask.

When to visit Bermuda

The best time to visit Bermuda is over our summer months, from May to October. Between June and September, expect warm, sunny days with temperatures averaging 22°C to 26°C. Greater rainfall and tropical storms may be experienced in September and October.
