Kenya / Segera Retreat

Set on the Laikipia plateau overlooking Mount Kenya, Segera Retreat offers a truly unique experience.

Accommodation comprises of two-storey timber and thatch villas raised on stilts, each with a sun deck, loungers, swing bed and outdoor Jacuzzi bath, a family villa, Segera House, and Villa Segera which comes with a private pool and sunken hide. Guests will marvel at The Bird’s Nest – the latest addition to the retreat. Set high above the ground, it offers the unique concept of nesting and sleeping like a bird, with a 360 degree birds-eye-view of the surrounding wilderness. The interior suite features a fully-equipped bathroom with solar-heated running water and a flushing toilet, while the exterior structure is built and designed from raw materials that have been woven into the nest-like shape by local community members. Quirky dining venues include the former stables where modern artworks now adorn the walls and the wine cellar housed in a water tower. Bush picnics, nature walks and camel walks are arranged at guests’ convenience, while the pool and spa beckon to those who are keen to simply relax and unwind.

When to visit Kenya

January to March is hot and dry with the long rains usually falling from April to early June. Between June and October it is warm and dry during the day but cold at night. The migration usually arrives in the Mara from July with river crossings from Tanzania generally taking place between July and September. The herds rest in Kenya before crossing back to Tanzania in October/November. Kenya’s coast enjoys a tropical climate – April to June can be humid, tempered by monsoon winds. Nairobi is pleasant year round due to its altitude.
