Kenya / Elewana Loisaba Star Beds

This sister property to Elewana Loisaba Tented Camp promises an exhilarating experience deep within a private wildlife conservancy famed for its populations of wild dog, elephant and big cats.

Located amid a rocky kopje on a hillside overlooking a permanent waterhole, the Star Bed accommodations feature en-suite living on raised open wooden platforms, bathrooms being open to the air, with hot running water and flush toilets. Each night, the handcrafted four-poster beds are rolled out from under the thatched roof to enable guests to sleep out under the stars if they wish, described as ‘an amazing experience’ by many previous visitors.

There’s shared dining in the dining room – bush breakfasts and picnics add to the sense of being at one with nature. In addition to game drives, fishing and mountain biking, horse riding can be arranged; traditional camel trekking is also a memorable way to see wildlife at close quarters. Learn about the work of the anti-poaching team and meet their two sniffer dogs, Warrior and Machine.

When to visit Kenya

January to March is hot and dry with the long rains usually falling from April to early June. Between June and October it is warm and dry during the day but cold at night. The migration usually arrives in the Mara from July with river crossings from Tanzania generally taking place between July and September. The herds rest in Kenya before crossing back to Tanzania in October/November. Kenya’s coast enjoys a tropical climate – April to June can be humid, tempered by monsoon winds. Nairobi is pleasant year round due to its altitude.
