Santorini / OMMA Santorini

Evading the crowds of Oia, this boutique bolthole has accomplished the seemingly impossible; but don’t fear, the views from here are arguably even better.

Santorini’s popularity means space and privacy are distinctly hard to come by; but OMMA Santorini breaks the mould and answers the prayers of those peace preferring pairs. Just 30 contemporary volcanic-cave-inspired rooms and suites (each with private terrace and most a private plunge pool) hide in plain sight on a less trodden path from Oia to Thira, away from the neighbouring hotels.

While it successfully plays on its namesake (omma means ‘eye’ or ‘vision’ in ancient Greek – hence the evil eye do not disturb signs painted on rocks) and the Caldera views can’t be faulted, the other senses aren’t neglected here. Taste and smell are rescued from jealousy with seasonal cooking masterclasses and restaurant fare led by renowned executive chef Dimitris Stamoudis. The rooftop breakfast serves sound with classical music and a champagne tipple, while touch is appeased at facial regime masterclasses by Elemis Elite therapists.

Though it has one of the largest pools on the island and a heavenly natural cave treatment room at the Elemis Spa, OMMA takes pleasure in encouraging their visitors to embrace life outside of the resort to connect with the local community. They aim to get to know their guests, and a few personal needs catered for and carefully curated itineraries later, the inquisitively interactive are invited to find hidden gems amongst the nature, culture and history of the island; whether by hiking, cruising the Aegean, wine tasting and inspecting nearby archaeological sites.

Travel notes:

  • 30 rooms and suites featuring private terraces and option of private plunge pool
  • One of few high-end family-friendly options on the island; expect open floor plans, easy access to facilities, interconnecting rooms and two-bedroom villas
  • Thoughtful extras include popcorn whilst watching the sunset, monogrammed cookies at turndown and live music on full moon nights
  • Lack of stairs makes this a good choice for mobility concerns
  • Supports the preservation and protection of historical archaeological sites, wildlife and unspoiled nature of the island
