Chianti / COMO Castello del Nero

A 12th century castle set within its own 740-acre private estate, COMO Castello del Nero is the epitome of old world Tuscan grandeur.

This majestic yet boutique abode surrounded by Chianti’s vineyards and olive groves is full of authentic charm, from its 50 unique bedroom layouts to the original terracotta floors, frescoed walls and gilded ceilings.

Alongside wellness by COMO Shambhala and the open-air heated pool, two restaurants offer a choice of Michelin-starred fine dining at La Torre, and traditional Tuscan fare at La Taverna, with a selection of estate wines, olive oil and honey produced on-site to sample in private tastings.

Explore the area on foot via many walking trails (look out for deer, wild boar and porcupines), or from above in a hot air balloon experience. Weekly complimentary yoga takes place within the exceptional gardens, the cooking school and gelato classes with the chef are particularly popular, and don't miss the chance to join seasonal experiences such as truffle hunting or the harvesting of grapes when staying in Autumn.

A 15-minute walk away is the village of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, with its lively local markets, restaurants and gelaterias. Florence, Siena and San Gimignano are all approximately 30 minutes by car and there's a complimentary scheduled shuttle service to Florence or Siena.

When to visit Italy

Italy is a year round destination especially for city breaks, with a largely temperate climate with regional variations. Summers are hot especially from Rome southwards, whilst spring and autumn are mild. Winter in the south is warmer and drier than in the northern and central areas which can be much colder with snow fall in the mountainous regions.
