A self-drive itinerary taking in a cosmopolitan city, a spectacular train journey and the breathtaking scenery of the Canadian Rockies.

This itinerary begins with a stay in the heart of downtown Vancouver before boarding the Rocky Mountaineer with a stay in Kamloops. Gold Leaf Service is included; enjoy gourmet dining and admire Canada's wild beauty through the panoramic dome windows. You'll then enjoy a 2 night stay in Jasper National Park before continuing onwards to turquoise tinted Lake Louise. A mountain playground on your doorstep, the area is known as the hiking capital of Canada, whist the glacial lake is a canoeing paradise during the summer. Drive to Banff National Park and learn about the people, geology and wildlife on a discovery tour of this mountain town, followed by a journey on the Banff Gondola for a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountain ranges. Finnish with a stay in Calgary, look beyond its Wild West heritage and enjoy the thriving arts scene and ever evolving cuisine.

Pick up your hire car and continue to Lake Louise for a 2 night stay at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. At the heart of Banff National Park, turquoise tinted Lake Louise stands in an amphitheatre of rugged mountains offering perfect hiking and exploration. Not to miss: ride the gondola up Mount Whitehorn for dramatic views across Bow Valley to the Chateau, Lake Louise, Victoria Glacier and Valley of the Ten Peaks. (RO)

Continue to Banff National Park for a 2 night stay at Fairmont Banff Springs. With high alpine meadows, jade green lakes and weird and wonderful rock formations – Banff National Park is a protected World Heritage Site. Learn about the people, geology and wildlife while exploring the spectacular sights of the renowned mountain town of Banff. This excursion is highlighted with a journey on the Banff Gondola for a 360 degree view of the six mountain ranges that surround the town. Calgary

Arrive into Calgary for your final night's stay at the Fairmont Palliser.
