Thailand / Capella Bangkok

On the fringe of one of Bangkok’s oldest and most unique districts, this thoughtful individual keeps its appearance low-key stylish, its service perfectly personalised and its experiences truly authentic.

The first Thai turf to be occupied by the Capella brand straddles the edge of the Chao Phraya River, the subject within each and every window frame. Each panoramic room and suite is designed to be a sanctuary of calm and comfort dressed in the palette of a coffee shop menu; with the villas and their plunge pool-decked terraces taking it up a notch as the only accommodation of their ilk on the water.

The type of place for those who love exquisite exclusivity on the down low, Capella sees Bangkok as far more than just a stopover city. There isn’t your typical concierge here. Instead, as champions of all things local, the Capella Culturist is the embodiment of the brand’s genuine respect for its destinations; taking charge organising carefully researched and bespoke experiences aimed at building guests’ personal knowledge and affection for the area. Think cuisine-crawls in the 100 year old food stalls with a local chef and reviving old traditions with the help of the Yais (the lovable Thai grandmothers). Well, nothing more could be expected from our top choice for doing Bangkok in the most sumptuously cultivated way possible.

Travel notes:

  • 94 rooms and suites; 7 villas
  • 35-45 minutes car transfer from airport
  • Top Argentine Chef, Mauro Colagreco, heads up the one Michelin-starred signature restaurant – Côte – while Thai dishes are served in riverside Phra Nakhon
  • The location is ideal to get up close and personal with the city
  • We recommend getting involved in the hotel’s many initiatives and projects to revive local ancient neighbourhoods
  • With only 101 keys compared to the neighbour resorts, it provides a much more intimate atmosphere

When to visit Thailand

Thailand is generally very hot and humid with distinct dry and rainy seasons. The best time to visit most resorts, including Phuket, Khao Sok, Krabi, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, is from November to March, with the exception of Koh Samui which is best visited from December to August. However, with ever-changing weather patterns and excellent offers, it is well worth considering a holiday during the shoulder seasons.
